Face shape analysis is applied geometry
Face shape analysis studies the proportions and outline of your face to work out the lines that bring it into harmony. It is neither a trend nor a matter of taste: it is geometry.
Every face has a dominant shape, defined by the widths of the forehead, cheekbones and jaw, and by the ratio between height and width. These measurements lead to precise choices: a frame can widen or slim a face, a hairstyle can lengthen or shorten it, a neckline can sharpen or soften the jaw.
Eight face shapes, eight logics
- Oval
- Reference shape, balanced: preserve it, without lengthening.
- Long oval / Oblong
- Long face: shorten and widen (width, never height).
- Round
- Lengthen and structure (add angles).
- Square
- Soften the angles (and lengthen a little).
- Rectangle
- Shorten and soften (angular and long).
- Triangle / Pear
- Wide jaw: widen the top, slim down and soften the bottom.
- Inverted triangle / Heart
- Wide forehead, pointed chin: reduce the forehead, add volume at the bottom.
- Diamond / Hexagonal
- Prominent cheekbones: widen the forehead and chin, soften the cheekbones.
Four areas, immediate decisions
